6. Sliabh Luachra Collection from Cuz Teahan's Black Book

This manuscript was donated to me by Paudie Sullivan, nephew of Cuz. It consists of 147 tunes, beautifully transcribed by an unknown hand. The collection forms part of the first section of what was called Cuz’s Black Book, which he brought over from Ireland after his first visit back home in 1956 and which he added to with his own compositions throughout the remainder of his life. The second to last page (p.137-142) of this manuscript has an interesting feature. To the far right of the title to tune No.140 the following inscription is visible: P O'Keeffe 20/8/42 and in the same location for tune No.141 the following is written:: Reel P O'Keeffe 20/8/42. The handwriting of both inscriptions is identical to that of the tune titles throughout the manuscript so, in all likelihood, whoever transcribed the manuscript received tunes 140 & 141 from Padraig O'Keeffe in August of 1942.
