|
Tom Masterson was a flute player from Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim who emigrated to America in 1948. He spent 3 years in California with his brother, Eddie, before moving to Chicago in 1951, where he settled for the remainder of his life. Tom was a very active member of the IMA in Chicago, performing at all of their social events throughout the year and, along with his good friend Martin Byrne on accordion, was the resident musician for the Dennehy School of Dance in Chicago for many years.
Prior to a planned trip to Ireland for vacation in August of 1965, Tom gathered a number of musicians at Hanley’s House of Happiness on 79th & Loomis, to make a recording to share with his family and friends back in Ireland. Among the musicians and singers with Tom that night were Tommy Masterson Jnr., Seamus Cooley, Joe Cooley, Johnny McGreevy, Martin Byrne and Jimmy Fahy. The recording has 21 tracks, listed below... |
